[...huh, didn’t you die? Well, maybe you didn’t. You might wake up feeling like you just woke up from a really vivid nightmare that you can still sort of feel the effects of or something… sure, you’re still in your old cabin, but maybe you can go out and see everyone?

...except when you go out, while it seems like the same old camp, things are a little… strange and pixelated. Also, the walls seem to have come down, but if you try to cross the barriers of where the walls were, you’ll find yourself right back at your cabin door.

[Mac hears the jingle and bursts out laughing. What was this, a videogame?

Somebody else should go check the chest, Mac is way too busy, floating around. It'll be a while before he's rested enough to go out without panting]

[Pittoo tries to glide over, but doesn't have the height to make it all the way, eventually hitting the water near the coast and splashing about like a distressed duck before finally making it to land]

[The chest will open to reveal a glowing yellow shard...as inconspicuous as it might appear, it glows lightly and almost exudes power.]

[A shard giving off power... Pittoo checks looks around almost guiltily before giving his wings a few test flaps.

...look, he wouldn't STEAL any powers they might need to escape but hey this is... ttly a good test for legitimacy. Honest]

It certainly FEELS magical. Not strong enough to power my wings, but it's something. Look, it looks like a broken off piece too... so maybe there's more?

I think you're on to something. Maybe if we find the other pieces, it will do something?

Well, if there's a puzzle and a chest you gotta assume it means something. Anyone seen anything else that looks like a puzzle or challenge yet?

Not yet. I've been talking to our Goomba-buddy, and he was telling me about other students from his group. You know, the group from before us?

Yeah, I remember him mentioning that.

I've been trying to get more useful stuff from him, but it's not easy.

Doubt he knew anything more then we did. Gotta wonder if there's anymore of his friends here though. Or if he knows about this thing. We should gather everyone up and ask.

[Mac approaches Pittoo and the chest, finally having rested. He peeks at what the angel kid has and...well he has no idea what that is. He can't even feel its power]

That's it? I expected more than a fancy lantern, to be honest.
